چکیده

Abstract INTRODUCTION In localized oesophageal cancer (EC), a correct clinical tumor staging is essential in order to offer an optimal treatment, although often challenging. The aim of this work assess the accuracy diagnostic tests by comparing them with pathological staging. MATERIAL AND METHODS Retrospective observational study patients who underwent oesophagectomy for referral hospital between January 2003 and September 2019. Those received neoadjuvant treatment were excluded avoid bias from dowstaging effects. preoperative stage cT cN as well combination both (cTNM) compared surgical specimen (pT, pN, pTNM), considered gold standard. Computed tomography (CT) endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) evaluated cN, while Positron emission (PET/CT) only cN. Furthermore, pT was correlated length described oesophagogram (EG). RESULTS Among 63 included, 16 cases (global 25.4%), it overstaged 21 (33.2%) understaged 26 (41.3%). For staging, EUS higher than that CT (46.6% 34.9% respectively), specially early stages. EG (p < 0.05). PET/CT had highest sensitivity (50.0%) NPV (75.0%). CONCLUSIONS Despite multiple tools used, global EC still challenge, therapeutic prognostic implications entails.

Diagnostic accuracy of CT scan in staging resectable esophageal cancer.

INTRODUCTION CT scan is an important tool in staging of esophageal cancer. Survival can be improved by providing neoadjuvant treatment which depends on stage of esophageal cancer. So it is very important to stage the disease accurately. METHODS The objective of this study is to determine diagnostic accuracy of CT scan to stage esophageal cancer. Ct scans of 62 patients included in the study w...

Diagnostic accuracy of multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) in evaluation for mediastinal invasion of esophageal cancer.

OBJECTIVE Determine diagnostic accuracy of evaluation for mediastinal invasion of esophageal cancer by multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) as compared with post-operative histopathology staging. MATERIAL AND METHOD The present study retrospectively analyzed the 64-slice MDCT of twenty-one patient's diagnosis with esophageal cancer who received surgical treatment in Siriraj Hospital. Pati...

Early diagnostic potential of APC hypermethylation in esophageal cancer

Background The hypermethylation of APC gene is observed in various cancers, including esophageal cancer (EC). However, the association between APC methylation and the initiation and progression of EC is poorly understood. Purpose and methods The current study systematically reviewed studies on abnormal methylation of APC in EC and quantitatively synthesized 18 studies by meta-analysis involvi...

Relationship between Non-Technical Factors and Diagnostic Accuracy of Frozen Section in Axillary Lymph Nodes in Patients with Breast Cancer

Background and purpose: Regional lymph node involvement is one of the main prognostic factors for breast cancer. Intraoperative assessment of sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) by frozen section (FS) allows necessary axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) at the same time. But, false negative results are the main problems of the FS. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship betwee...

Diagnostic Accuracy of Positron Emission Mammography with 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose in Breast Cancer Tumor of Less than 20 mm in Size

Objective(s): To investigate the diagnostic accuracy of positron emission mammography (PEM) and positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) for small breast tumors of less than 20 mm in size. Methods: The study was conducted on a total of 100 subjects (i.e., 50 patients with pathologically proven breast cancer and 50 normal cases of medical screening). The total number of tumors wa...
